🕊️ Brighton are the Most Profitable Club in the Premier League
Brighton are perhaps, the best operators in Europe. A big part of their financial success is their efficiency in the transfer market. Here's how they do it.

2025 has started strongly. In this year alone we have grown by:
6,500 subscribers on YouTube to 25,100 in total
1,100 on Instagram to 11,900 in total
341 on newsletter to 1,346 in total
The crazy thing is I have also been nominated for two categories at the British Sports Journalism awards.
One for YouTube Newcomer, where I’m up against Cristiano Ronaldo (😆) and the other for YouTube Show where I’m up against Gary Neville’s “Stick to Football” amongst others,
This platform has grown quickly and there have been some humbling moments along the way but these nominations have stopped me dead in my tracks. This is a big honour and I’m very excited to be in such esteemed company. Thank you to everyone who has engaged with any of my content in the last year or so. It really does mean alot to me.
Today though, I am going to break down why Brighton are one of the best run clubs in the whole of Europe...

Brighton & Hove Albion are the best operators Premier League.
This graph below shows the most profitable clubs in the league between the years of 2019 to 2023.

Yes, that is Brighton in first place!
Last week, Brighton released financial accounts which saw them post £73.3m in profit for the 2023-2024 season! Further adding to the numbers you see above.
A massive part of their profitable nature is their success in the transfer market. The results speak for themselves:
Marc Cucurella – Bought for £15m, sold for £62m.
Moises Caicedo – Bought for £4m, sold for £115m.
Alex Mac Allister – Bought for £6.9m, sold for £35m.
Leandro Trossard – Bought for £15m, sold for £27m.
They also have Kaoru Mitoma whom they bought for £3m. They recently rejected a big from Al Nasr for £55m for him!
This isn’t luck. They are good at this because of their secret weapon, Jamestown Analytics.
Jamestown is a data analytics firm. Their primary service is providing advanced scouting insights that allow Brighton to find and develop undervalued players before anyone else.
The Brighton Technical Director David Weir put it very succinctly:
"We’re fortunate to have access to all the information from every league in the world, which you’d never be able to cover on a scouting, subjective, eyes-on basis."
Translation? Brighton has access to data no other Premier League team has.
This access is possible because of their owner Tony Bloom. Bloom built a career from sports betting, starting his professional journey at PremierBet. Following that stint he became the founder of Starlizard, an elite betting consultancy that again, supplies advanced data analytics to their consultancy clients.
Jamestown Analytics is an offshoot of Starlizard; explaining why Brighton are the premier beneficiaries.
No one knows much about Jamestown. The Revenue numbers are not public. The Employee count is not disclosed. There is also little out there which suggests how much they charge for their services.
Their impact on British football so far is very clear. As their reputation grows I firmly expect more clubs to come knocking for their help. Or for more clubs to use data in this manner.
I’ll leave you this week with one of my favourite videos from my Instagram archives.
NFL contracts are laden with incentives. There is no better example of that than this video above.
Must feel nice knowing you’ve just banked $1m for a catch. Especially when you play in Tampa and pay no state tax!
See you next week.
